Frequently Asked Questions
If you are eligible to join the Solar Together Program, there is no set duration or end date. There are options to leave this program or change energy plans at any time. To learn more about leaving the Program, see the FAQ below: Can I cancel and remove my solar package?
There are a number of energy market dynamics which come into play depending on the amount of electricity that is being supplied to the grid and the electricity demand. Alinta Energy and NRN will look to manage these scenarios to maximise efficiencies, which could mean using the solar generated electricity for your home, storing it in the battery, or feeding it back into the grid when there is high demand.
As part of the Solar Together Program your solar system will be serviced and maintained by NRN to ensure it performs at its best.
Yes. If you are not currently an Alinta Energy customer, and you meet the eligibility criteria to join the program, we’ll help you transfer onto the relevant energy plan. To stay on the Solar Together Program, you will need to remain an Alinta Energy customer and stay on the plan allocated to the program.
To be eligible there are a number of criteria, such as you will need to own the property and space where the solar package will be installed. The property will also need to be assessed to check it’s suitable for a solar and battery install, and factors such as its geographical location, roof structure and orientation will be assessed. All further eligibility criteria will be discussed with you as part of the phone consultation. There is a standard minimum daily usage of approximately 15kWh per customer to qualify for the Solar Together Program.
Yes, you can provide notice and have the solar package removed anytime. If you leave in the first 24 months, an early exit fee of $1,200 (including GST) and a removal fee will apply. The removal fee is based on the size of the solar system and is $150 (including GST) per kW. For example, if you installed a 5kW system, the removal fee would be $750 (including GST). If cancelling after 24 months, there is only a removal fee.
Having a solar and battery system could increase the desirability of your house. Below are four different options if you move or sell your home:
- You can purchase the solar package outright at any time.
- You can cancel at any time, subject to a removal fee and an early exit fee if it’s within the first 24 months.
- You can transfer the solar package to the new owners.
- If you decide to rent your property out, you can pass the benefits onto your tenants by signing a new Occupier Undertaking.
As part of the solar and battery installation you may require a new smart meter. This will be assessed and if it’s required, it will come at no cost to you. If upgraded to a smart meter, your network distributor may apply the default network tariff for your area, potentially altering your rate structure with Alinta Energy. Alinta Energy will keep you informed as you move through the program.
You can buy the solar package at any time and the cost will be based on a depreciation schedule that reduces every month, which means that the solar assets will become cheaper as they get older. This reduction schedule is shown in your personalised solar proposal. This also provides you with an option to try the benefits of solar before you invest.
As part of the Solar Together Program, you will not obtain a solar feed-in tariff when generating solar. If you enter this program, the reward and energy plan you receive will apply to all your electricity consumption regardless of whether your electricity comes from the solar panels, battery or the grid.
