Activation to Installation
Understand NRN Direct
NRN Direct
NRN Direct is a temporary billing arrangement that ensures a smooth transition to your selected energy retailer. We need final approval from your chosen energy retailer before installation can proceed.
During this period, you’ll be placed on our energy retail partner’s standard market plan and receive an NRN Direct charge for your solar and battery system. We aim to keep this transition period as short as possible while ensuring you can still benefit from your system from day one.
NRN Direct billing will stop once your system is fully activated and your energy retailer plan takes effect. However, suppose you decide to switch (or “churn”) from one of NRN’s approved retail partners to another energy provider. In that case, you will receive two bills—one from your new energy company for grid electricity and another from NRN for continued access to your solar and battery system. However, we recommend you continue to use our retail partners, as this should help lower your energy bills.
This setup ensures you maintain uninterrupted access to your renewable energy benefits, no matter which retailer you choose.

Your Journey to Smart Energy with NRN
At NRN, we make the transition to solar and battery storage seamless. Before installation can begin, several key steps must be completed to ensure a smooth process.
After your initial assessment, you’ll receive a tailored proposal outlining your solar and battery system. Once accepted, the application process begins, including submitting required documentation, securing approval from our partner energy retailer, providing your Explicit Informed Consent (EIC) form, and completing your banking details in the GoCardless form. Once all approvals are received, you’ll sign a combined contract with NRN and our solar installation partner.
With everything finalised, we move forward with the installation phase.

Since your property requires a smart meter upgrade, NRN will coordinate this with your energy provider. You will remain on NRN Direct billing until the upgrade is completed. The smart meter installation and activation process typically takes 2–6 weeks. Once installed and verified, your billing will transition from NRN Direct to your Partner Energy Retailer.
Final Transition to Partner Energy Retailer
Once your system is fully activated and your billing is transferred to your Partner Energy Retailer, your NRN Direct billing will end, and all future charges will come from your Partner Energy Retailer. You’ll continue using your solar and battery system to maximise savings, with any additional grid electricity charged based on your Partner Energy Retailer’s plan. If you have any questions, you can contact their support team directly. We’ll keep you updated throughout the process and notify you once your installation and billing transitions are complete.
Direct Debit for NRN Direct
To ensure a smooth transition to your new energy retailer, we need your bank details to set up billing for NRN Direct during the interim period. This temporary charge covers your system usage until your switch to our partner retailer is complete. Once your retailer plan is active, NRN Direct billing will stop. Please provide your details at your earliest convenience to avoid any disruptions.
