NRN is a technology platform that solves the ownership problem at the heart of the energy transition. We own and operate distributed energy infrastructure so that every household can access cheaper, cleaner electricity without paying for it upfront.
Our vision
Australia did not ask consumers to fund coal-fired power stations. Centralised energy infrastructure was built with institutional capital and delivered as a service. Nobody paid upfront for a share of a generator to turn their lights on.
Yet when it comes to distributed energy, the infrastructure that will actually power the next generation, the model asks the consumer to foot the bill. A system that costs tens of thousands of dollars, paid for by the homeowner, installed on their roof, generating and storing energy for their personal use.
NRN was founded to fix this. Not by subsidising the old model, but by changing it entirely. NRN owns and operates the solar and battery systems. The customer pays nothing upfront and gets cheaper electricity. The energy retailer gets dispatchable capacity. The grid gets coordinated, institutional-grade distributed energy. Every party is aligned from day one.

When a customer pays for their own solar and battery system, they bought it for themselves. Their incentive is personal savings and self-sufficiency. The grid needs that same asset used in a fundamentally different way: coordinated, dispatchable, responsive to market signals.
This conflict is why Virtual Power Plant participation rates have been persistently low. It is why 80% of Australia's rooftop solar fleet is not actively monitored. It is why 75% of systems are underperforming and 14% are not working at all. It is why 28.3 GW of distributed generation, the NEM's single largest source, remains invisible and uncoordinated.
This is not a technology problem. It is an ownership and incentive alignment problem. NRN was built to solve it.
