How it works

For Homeowners

NRN takes the hassle out of reducing your energy costs. Here is what happens from the moment you sign up.

How your bill goes down.

Right now, you buy all your electricity from the grid at the full retail rate. That is the most expensive way to power your home.

With an NRN energy plan, solar and batteries on your roof generate a large share of your energy. Your home uses that first. What's left comes from the grid. Because your retailer needs to buy less on your behalf, your rate is lower.

What you pay.

You pay your energy retailer for electricity, the same way you do now. One bill. One plan. The difference is your rate is lower because your home is generating its own power.

There is no separate payment to NRN. No financing. No second bill. The solar and battery system is part of your energy plan, not an add-on.

Questions homeowners ask us.

How long is the agreement?

NRN contracts have a term of 12 years. At the end of the term, the system purchase cost is $0 and ownership transfers to you at no cost.

What if I sell my home?

If you sell your home, you buy out the system as part of the settlement. The price is based on the age and remaining value of the system, and is detailed in your agreement.

What if something breaks?

NRN owns the system and is responsible for fixing faults. We monitor every system 24/7 and will always try to resolve issues remotely first. If needed, we organise a site visit at our cost.

Do I pay for maintenance?

No. Ongoing maintenance, monitoring and fault repairs are covered by NRN for the life of the agreement.

Does the system work in a blackout?

No. The NRN system operates only when connected to the grid. If there is a power outage, the system will automatically shut down. This is a safety requirement for all grid-connected solar systems in Australia.

Do I need to stay on a participating energy plan?

No. You are free to choose any energy retailer. If you move to a non-participating retailer, NRN Unbundled charges will apply and be invoiced directly by NRN. You can switch back to a participating plan at any time.

Who owns the solar and battery system?

NRN owns the system for the duration of the agreement and is responsible for operation, monitoring and maintenance. At the end of your 12 year contract, ownership transfers to you.

Do you put anything on my property title?

NRN records its ownership of the system at the property. For most sites, NRN will lodge a caveat on the property title.
